Sharing Sunlight (with Esme)

People share sunlight all the time.
They never consider it.
People walk on the same skin of a city,
leave their indentations on the sidewalk,
Fingerprints and the pebbleholes made by rain
Over time.
Maybe they meet.
(Often they don’t.)
They overhear one another’s laughter
Or read about one another in the paper
Like I did on New Year’s Day.
People share sunlight all the time.
They think nothing of it.
