Voices, Vices, Vinci

Legs a-Pondering

Say What?

I’m still sort of figuring out this whole blog page thing. I’m a writer who doesn’t like to keep paper files or write in a journal.

I’m weird like that.

And navel-gazing isn’t all that interesting to me either — you’ve seen one, you’ve seen a million — which is why I think I’m going to kick this off, for reals, by talking about people who inspire me, people whose work I really, really enjoy. The ones who, in the words of Caesar, veni, vidi, vinci it for me. Oh, that’s Latin for: really does it for me. (Actually, it isn’t that at all, but I’m nicer than Caesar.)

I want to walk through these photos, sit on the furniture, look at the windows, sip the champagne, flip through the books, et cetera. It’s like Alice in Wonderland for adults. Only it’s real, and it’s through Jamie’s looking-glass camera. Amazing work. Amazing world.

The very awesome Michele Campbell is very thoughtful with the side bonus of being hilarious. Teacher, writer, improviser – she’s one of the lovely people from Minneapolis I’ve met either virtually or physically in the past year. A real delight.

Rosemary Beck is the curator — that’s the term that seems to fit best — for all things homey, delicious, and tempting. Like From Me To You’s site, she posts things I want to taste, walk through, live in, surround myself with, et cetera. She has created a kind of virtual Walden, through which I wander on a daily basis.

Hyperbole and a Half: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/

It is one of the few sites where with every post I say to myself: God, I wish I had written that! So funny. I thank my friend Natalie for turning me on to Allie and her wonderful, gut-busting, tear-streaming work.

Okay, this is getting long and I have to hula hoop now. There are more inspiring women and blogs to name. But I have to save something for tomorrow’s post, right?

Oh, and sorry about the lack of vices. Okay, here’s a vice: I’m on my 4th Diet Dr. Pepper. Terrible.

Vale. That’s Latin for see ya!
